Fresh from our bakery
Baked here, every single day
Everything in our bakery is made from scratch, seven days a week: the fillings, and every pastry, from hot-water crust to puff. The meat is free-range from Oulton's in Windsor, Nova Scotia, the butter is COWS from Prince Edward Island, the eggs are Nova Scotian and the flour is Canadian. Local and Canadian wherever we can get it.
Five bakers start at 5 am. Hot pies and sausage rolls are on the counter from opening until about 2 or 3, and the biggest selection is Friday to Sunday.

British & Irish frozen meats
The full breakfast, sorted
Our own square sausage and haggis are made by us. Around them in the freezer is our own range of British and Irish meats: black pudding, Cumberland and Lincolnshire sausages, British-style bangers and bacon, chipolatas, Scottish-style beef links, and haggis in slices and trays all year, with haggis balls around Burns Night and Christmas. Beside them, the Irish favourites people have asked us for for years: Brennan's sausages, and Celtic Gourmet's puddings and rashers. Yes, that means two black puddings.
The shop
Every shelf you have been missing
Chocolate, crisps, biscuits, tea, gravy, jam and the tins you grew up with, brought over from the UK and stacked a little higher than is probably wise.

Our story
British food you actually miss
Any big supermarket can put ten British products on a shelf: Hobnobs, a jar of Marmite, a Cadbury bar. Easy. That is not what we are for. We are for the strange, specific thing you remember from your gran's house, the chocolate bar you bought on the way home from primary school, the pie your granddad ate, the flavour you have not seen since you left. We sell nostalgia as much as food, and we try to stock what people actually miss, not the handful every supermarket already knows will sell.
The shop opened at 201 Chain Lake Drive in July 2022, after a few red-tape delays, and the plan was smaller than this. Then we started talking about it, and Halifax answered: recent expats, Brits who have been here for decades, shipyard workers, second-, third- and fourth-generation families, and Nova Scotians who simply like a steak and kidney pie because their grandparents made one. The shop grew. Then the bakery did, because a scratch bakery can make the things no shelf of imports ever will.
In August 2025, when the wildfire reached Bayers Lake, we closed the doors to the public and opened them to the fire crews and first responders instead, with food and drink on the house. It is a family business. That is simply what you do.
As seen on Global News (the reverse tariff sale, March 2025) and CBC (the Bayers Lake wildfire, August 2025).
Enjoyed the pasties. Just like the ones I had in Cornwall decades ago.

Questions people ask us
Where exactly are you?
201 Chain Lake Drive, Halifax, NS B3S 1C8, in Bayers Lake. Get directions.
Is the bakery in the shop?
Yes. Everything is made from scratch in our Halifax bakery, seven days a week: the fillings and every pastry, from hot-water crust to puff. Free-range meat from Oulton's in Windsor, Nova Scotia; local and Canadian ingredients wherever we can get them.
Can I eat in?
There is no seating, we are not a café. Hot pies and sausage rolls are on the counter to take away from opening until about 2 or 3 in the afternoon, and everything is there chilled to take home and reheat.
When is the best time to come?
For the biggest selection, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Early in the week the ovens are busy baking for our stockists across Nova Scotia; from Thursday the bakery turns to filling the Halifax shop for the weekend.
Can you post pies and sausage rolls?
Sadly not. Fresh baking does not travel well, so it stays in Nova Scotia. In Halifax, order it on Uber Eats; elsewhere in the province, find a shop that stocks it.
Can I order the groceries online?
Yes. The grocery range ships across Canada from our own shelves in Halifax. How shipping works.
Not in Nova Scotia?
We ship British groceries across Canada from the Halifax shelves. Not the pies and sausage rolls, sadly: fresh baking stays here.
Do you sell gift cards for the shop?
Yes. Choose the Halifax shop card on our gift cards page and collect it in store.
