I work close-by in Bayer’s Lake and love to pop in for a healthy and delicious lunch when I don’t bring one from home! I’ve had over 10 flavours of the pies, and tried almost every sweet they make. I adore this place, from the amazing food, to the nostalgic candies and British goods they carry, and especially the wonderful staff who always greet me by name and ask how Im doing every time I come in. My Papa was born and raised in England and loved to share tastes of home with his whole family, I wish he was able to see this place, he would’ve been delighted ❤️❤️❤️

Absolutely everything here is incredibly delicious, from the desserts, literally right down to the meat and potatoes! You cannot go wrong with any selection you may pick up here. And the staff are the friendliest bunch that you'll find around. 100% recommend.

Called in today for a steak and Guinness pie and gotta say that it looked so tasty and well made. The blonde lady who served me (Carol) knew what she was talking about and such great banter from her and a cheerful manner. I certainly recommend this place to anyone who likes food and drinks from the UK, there is no doubt that I will call again.

My family and I visit this place weekly and Carol and Irwin always give us such a big laugh and really make the experience so lovely. Would highly recommend :)

The lady working here is such a lovely person.so nice and her customer service skills are wonderful.the veggie curry pie was delicious and perfectly spiced, the vimto pop is a childhood fave and was delicious also.we cant wait try the tea we purchased, no doubt it too will be amazing. I have ordered many few times from the Great British Shop, items that you can't normally find in Canada and I am very satisfied with their service. I will continue to order from them in the future.

The Great British Shop is a gem for those of us who still hold a torch for things we left behind when we embraced the joy of living in Canada. For me, I have ordered a couple of times because I have wonderful friend who has rescued bits of my home that have gone off kilter(!). He doesn't accept cash - only Curly Wurlys!! Aaron ships promptly in a super (collectable even) carboard box PLUS a personal card (absolutely collectable). Kudos on quality service with a lovely personal touch!!

You get your order dealt with very quickly. I have been so surprised sometimes at how quickly it has arrived.
Everything in the order is always correct, as ordered, and extremely well-packaged.
But at The Great British Shop they always go just that little bit further.
Every order has always included a beautiful postcard from Britain, with a personalised message written on the back, thanking me for my order. And sometimes one or two little extra treats are in the package too.
I've lived away from England for so many decades now, and tbh there is very little I still miss from there, but it's a nice feeling of nostalgia to go through their website and see all those old and familiar foods and to indulge myself in some of them.
Chocolate custard! Blancmanges, and oh! - those cough candy drops that I had recently took me right back to my teens, buying "a quarter" of them in the sweet shop on my way home from school.
So do support Nova Scotia's Great British Shop. They will treat you right and fulfil your wants for tastes of Britain.

The Great British Shop offers a great selection of goods from the UK. I never have a problem finding my favs but also discovering new items to try. Shipping is fast and I love the little hand signed note in each package!

Best British pies in Halifax

Lovely store! They have the best sausage rolls i’ve ever had and the scotch egg is a must try! Never have I eaten an egg so deliciously prepared. Very kind and helpful staff who are knowledgeable on the products!

Very humble staff and delicious cake must visit this place

I shop in-store regularly and also place orders for my sons in Alberta and Saskatchewan and I honestly can’t fault the service. It’s always friendly, reliable and the deliveries are incredibly quick. We’ve never had a single issue.

This past Christmas, I placed a very late order for my son in Saskatchewan, fully expecting it to arrive after Christmas (there was signage on the website explaining all new orders would ship after Christmas). I completely understood that. But then I received a lovely message from Aaron, thanking me for my continued custom and he very kindly covered the cost of expedited delivery so it would arrive in time. I was absolutely touched. It arrived in under 48 hours and it really meant a great deal to me.

And as for the bakery, the Cornish pasty is quite simply the best I’ve had in Canada. In fact, it’s better than many you’ll find back home in the UK these days! I only wish you made them more often. Wink wink.

Thank you for everything you do to bring us a little taste of home and for all the care and effort you put into supporting the community. It truly doesn’t go unnoticed.

Ordered 3 sausage rolls, had HP sauce at home prepping for their demise!!! Simply divine. A steak and kidney pie. Omg just like my Grandma made! Then bought 4 pork pies. Delicious!!! Pork pies are not meant to heated so I had them with my salad. Will be back many times, I’m sure!!!!!

Boss place. Pastry, fillings, seasoning, all perfect. Pies, pasties and sausage rolls are top.

There's not a better sausage roll in the province, had them all. I'm still to find a better one in Canada, I try them on my travels I've had dozens over the years.

Atmosphere is great, owner is a United fan and that's the only bad thing I can say about the place. Quite bad that.

Top people, top food.

I moved to Nova Scotia last year from Ontario where locally I had lots of Brit shops. I was worried about getting my fix when moving here but happy to say your shop has . Everything I need. I am a regular shopper with my wife even with the hour commute, I pick up your pies at Withrows when in a pinch but we come in for our pantry needs and the cheese and onion pasties which are to die for. Bravo .

Love this place. Properly love it. Always spot on with the service and the banter… feels like a home away from home. I do miss Claire, especially hearing an English accent behind the counter, but the all-Scottish crew behind the tills now are a great laugh and that British humour is still very much alive.

I picked up a little card with the pies on it and it had Carol and Irwin’s names on there, which I liked. Nice to finally have names to put to faces I see all the time.
This is a proper small business that actually cares. Everyone working there has a smile and makes you feel like they’re genuinely happy to see you... and that’s important to me.
I love going home to the UK and I used to miss the food when I was back there… now I find myself missing the food from here when I’m over there. Funny old world. The first night back in Nova Scotia is always the same for us… pie and mash. My go to is the Guinness pie and my wife absolutely adores the stilton.

What they bake is incredibly good and always consistent. The imported selection is the best around and very reasonably priced. The baked goods are what force my hand into driving to Bayers Lake… but it’s the people inside that make the whole experience even better.

I finally got here looking for a box of tea my sister's friend sent from England. They were kind and friendly and I stayed after purchase talking to the person who was working out front. It was a friendly british tv and movie chat.

I love the Great British Shop as they help fulfill my Walkers Roast Chicken Crisp addiction! But aren't they just the same as Lays? Nope! They taste just like Chicken Dinner and I highly recommend! The Cheese and Onion are really good too.
However, this first time I went into the shop many years ago now and saw the homemade savory pies I was hooked! I think we bought 6 or 8 and haven't looked back. The meat pies are amazing and this time I had to get the Christmas Dinner Pie with my bag of crisps!
Loved it, and you will too if you enjoy all the flavors of Christmas Dinner, especially cranberries! I made a Country gravy to accompany this pie!
The staff are all fantastic and so helpful, the grocery section is amazing, frozen foods & prepared meals, crisps, chocolate to satisfy any craving, and do not skip out on the meat pies and cakes!

I love marmalade, orange marmalade and I wanted something good. The lady in the shop was a wonderful help, she steered me to the right place and I am afraid I am going to have to come by to buy more soon lol!

Since I can't easily go to Cornwall to visit family, this is my go-to place for pasties and other British delicacies. We always receive a warm welcome and appreciate the variety of items that are offered. The beef and vegetable pasty didn't last long enough for me to take a picture

Whilst I have not yet been to the NS store in person, I do frequent the store in Cambridge. I also love to use the online store, which comes via NS. British Pride allows me to have all of the fun & nostalgic tastes of home - Very important during specific times of the year. Pop in to a physical location - The staff are always so friendly, they remember you (especially if you're a frequent customer like me lol) or check out the online store for a really fantastic selection of goodies - Aaron is always amazing when there's been a bit of a hiccup for delivery orders. This is an amazing store for anyone that enjoys freshly baked treats or items from the UK. I’ve been visiting the store regularly since that opened and everyone has been so kind and friendly.

Lovely shop, the people are welcoming and happy to recommend items if you’re looking to try something new. Their social media is lighthearted and funny. The bacon and cheese pastry is my favourite and I can get clotted cream to have at home!

I stopped in recently and had a quick chat with Aaron, the owner. He’s very down-to-earth and joked that he’s “hopeless on camera,” even though their DNR sausage savouries ended up getting news attention. He remembered my original review and laughed about how uncomfortable he felt being asked for interviews, he was just glad his staff got so many kind comments from customers.

What really stayed with me was how much the shop does quietly. During our conversation he mentioned, almost in passing, a recent donation of boxes of pies and pasties to a downtown kitchen. They never post about things like that, but I think it deserves to be recognized.

The food is great, but the heart and the way this place shows up for the community is what sees me coming back time and time again!

I am an online customer and have been incredibly happy with this store. The selection is amazing, and the prices are great. The customer service is wonderful too. There was an delay with an item for an order I placed and I was contacted right away with options. This item can't be found anywhere other than when I've been in the UK, so I chose to wait and have my order sent when the item was back in. (Only delayed by a few days) I have already placed multiple orders here because of the quality of products, variety and the customer service. Would highly recommend!!!

As a treat this year I thought I would purchase some British treats that I can't get anywhere close to where I live. I looked at a couple of different sites but I'm glad I opted to order from The Great British Shop. After my first order arrived I ordered some more. I have missed some of the sweets and pickles I had at our table and my Nan's. Really a quality selection and the customer service is no.1. The cards with the personal message that came with the order are appreciated. I am definitely on the customer list.

A gem of a shop!

We shop at the Great British Shop in Halifax on a regular basis because the products are exceptional and we absolutely LOVE the friendly staff. My husband is obsessed with the steak and gravy pies, I can't get enough of the Bakewell tarts and we both adore their Eccles cakes, all of which are baked daily on the premises. We are so glad they decided to open a store in Halifax - long may they remain!!

I love The Great British Shop. I order maybe 3-4 times a year as I live in Ontario.
Always super fast delivery, never any missed items, packed really well.
My only complaint is that they moved to Halifax instead of staying in Ontario where I could pop in!!!!

I live in Ontario and I have placed in store pick up for our son who lives in Halifax. The items are ready for pick up quickly and it is easy for him to collect them. When I come out to visit him I come into the store for my British fix and I have ordered on line for both myself and for my British step mother. Ordering is simple and the price point is great. Thank you for looking after us expats and the also next generation who love British chocolate.

Living locally and having a British background, we have shopped here often. The store is clean, bright and well presented. The staff are always pleasantly helpful. What keeps us coming back are the great fresh baked goods, all distinctly flavoured such that it cannot be found elsewhere. Quality is always first rate, always enjoyed. The only disappointment is they are on occasion out of a product, a sign of success on their part. British food at its best.
