About Yorkshire Tea Sticky Toffee Brew

About Yorkshire Tea Sticky Toffee Brew

Sticky toffee pudding, except it comes in a mug and nobody judges you for having it at eleven in the morning. Yorkshire Tea Sticky Toffee Brew takes the pudding everyone orders "to share" and then guards with a spoon, and turns it into a cuppa.

It still tastes like tea, which is the important bit. Splash of milk, a biscuit for dunking, and suddenly it is a wet Sunday afternoon in somebody's front room with the telly on.

This is the UK box of 40 bags, and it ships from within Canada. Put the kettle on.

Frequently asked questions about Yorkshire Tea Sticky Toffee Brew

Q: Does it taste like tea or like pudding?

A: Tea first, toffee second. It is still a proper cuppa underneath, with that sticky toffee flavour sitting on top, and it takes milk the way you would expect.

Q: How many bags are in the box?

A: 40 bags. Enough to share, though in our experience sharing is more of a plan than a habit.

Q: Is it a good one to send as a gift?

A: Very much so, especially for someone who misses a British cuppa. Light, easy to post and a guaranteed conversation starter when they open it.

More about Yorkshire Tea Sticky Toffee Brew

Yorkshire Tea is the brew a good chunk of Britain runs on: the box by the kettle at work, the one your nan swore by. The flavoured brews are its cheeky side, a bit of fun next to the serious everyday stuff.

Most people find this one the same way. Somebody back home posts a photo of their mug, a cousin mentions it on the phone, and now you need to know whether it lives up to the name. Fair enough. Curiosity is a perfectly good reason to buy tea.

The box holds 40 bags, which is plenty for a proper investigation. Keep it closed in a dry cupboard and it behaves itself. Brew it like any Yorkshire Tea: bag in, boiling water, give it a few minutes, milk after. Sugar is between you and your conscience.

It rarely goes home alone. Most people pop a box of the regular Yorkshire Tea in the basket alongside it, because sticky toffee is for the afternoon and the normal one is for getting out of bed. A packet of British biscuits tends to follow.

The story of Yorkshire Tea Sticky Toffee Brew

Pudding, but in a mug

Sticky toffee pudding is the one you order straight after saying you could not possibly. This box puts the idea of it in a mug, mid-afternoon, with nobody at the table passing comment. On the front is Yorkshire Tea, the flagship blend from Taylors of Harrogate, and that name does a lot of work for anyone who left Britain with strong views on a proper cup. Kettle on, good mug out, and a Tuesday feels a bit more like home.

Two brothers in Harrogate

In 1886 Charles Edward Taylor and his brother set up in Harrogate, Yorkshire, trading as C.E. Taylor & Co. and blending tea and coffee. They went on to open tea kiosks in Harrogate and Ilkley. Plenty of people in Britain have opinions about tea. Very few turn those opinions into a business that is still blending in the same town all these years later.

Then the tea room moved in

In 1962 Bettys, the Yorkshire tea room business founded by Swiss confectioner Frederick Belmont, bought Taylors and renamed it Taylors of Harrogate. A Swiss confectioner buying a Yorkshire tea merchant sounds like the opening line of a joke. The merger created what is now known as the Bettys & Taylors Group, which remains a privately held, family-run business. Yorkshire Tea, the flagship black tea blend, was launched in 1977. That turned out to be the punchline.

Still blending at home

Taylors of Harrogate is headquartered in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, where the business continues to blend and pack its teas. Yorkshire Tea has become one of the UK's best-known and best-selling tea brands. In Britain the kettle goes on for good news, bad news and no news at all. Over here, a box with that name on it means the kettle can go on in exactly the same way, and the biscuit tin finally has an excuse to come out.
