About Yorkshire Loose Leaf Tea

About Yorkshire Loose Leaf Tea

There is a kettle somewhere in Yorkshire that has never once been allowed to go cold. Yorkshire Loose Leaf Tea from Taylors of Harrogate is what goes in the pot beside it.

Loose leaf, so it wants a teapot and a little patience. Warm the pot, give it a few minutes, and pour something strong enough to stand a spoon in. Well, nearly.

It is the brew for bad news, good news and Tuesday afternoons. Nobody asks if you want one. They just put the kettle on.

Pour it into your favourite mug. You know the one. Chipped handle, never lent out.

Frequently asked questions about Yorkshire Loose Leaf Tea

Q: Is this the UK version of Yorkshire Tea?

A: Yes. It is the British loose leaf blend from Taylors of Harrogate, the same one in the cupboards back home, and we ship it from within Canada.

Q: How do I brew loose leaf tea?

A: Warm the pot, add a rounded teaspoon per person plus one for the pot, pour on freshly boiled water and leave it a few minutes. Strain it into the mug and add milk to taste.

Q: Is it a good gift for someone who misses Britain?

A: It is one of the better ones. Add a tea strainer or a packet of biscuits and they will know exactly what you meant.

More about Yorkshire Loose Leaf Tea

Yorkshire Tea is the everyday cuppa in a great many British kitchens, the box by the kettle at work and the pot on the table when family turn up unannounced. Taylors of Harrogate have been blending it in Yorkshire since 1977, and it has become one of the country's best-loved teas.

People in Canada go looking for it because a mug of it tastes like the kitchen they grew up in. Tea bags get you most of the way. Loose leaf is the full ritual: the caddy, the spoon, the strainer and the wait.

The pack holds 250g of loose leaf tea. Tip it into an airtight caddy and keep it somewhere dry, away from the coffee and anything with a strong smell. The old rule still works: a rounded teaspoon per person and one for the pot, then a few minutes to brew. Milk after, and argue about it later.

Taylors also blend Yorkshire Gold for anyone who likes it richer, along with their own coffees. Most people want a packet of biscuits beside the pot too, digestives or ginger nuts, ideally something that survives a dunk.
