About our best-before dates

We work hard to bring proper British groceries to Canada, but importing food across an ocean is not as tidy as stocking a supermarket shelf down the road.

Some products arrive with long dates. Some arrive with shorter ones. Different products come through the import process with different shelf lives, so the dates are not always as neat or predictable as they would be in a regular Canadian supermarket.

Most online grocery shops do not show best-before dates unless something is getting close. We do it differently.

If you were shopping in our Halifax store, you could pick up the product, turn it over, and check the date before buying. We think our online customers should get that same level of transparency.

That is why we show best-before dates clearly on our products.

What "best before" actually means

A best-before date is about quality β€” flavour, texture, freshness, and how the product is expected to be at its best.

It is not the same as a "use by" or expiry date, which only appears on certain regulated foods.

For everyday groceries like chocolate, biscuits, crisps, sweets, tea, sauces, jams, and pantry items, the best-before date is a quality marker, not a safety marker.

Why our dates vary so much

British imports are unpredictable. We do not get to choose every date that arrives in Canada, and different products naturally come with different shelf lives.

A jar of sauce may have months or years on it. A bag of crisps might arrive with a much shorter window and still be completely normal for that type of product.

We check dates, show them clearly, and give you the information before you buy β€” because that is how it should be.

What the colours mean

  • More than 30 days remaining
  • Within 30 days
  • Within 5 days, or past the best-before date

The product page will still show the actual date, so you can decide what works for you.

Why some customers like shorter dates

Many of our regular customers deliberately shop shorter-dated items when the price makes sense.

A chocolate bar with two weeks left is often every bit as good as one with six months left β€” and if we can pass on a saving instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, everyone wins.

It is not about cutting corners. It is about being clear, fair, and sensible with stock that has travelled a long way to get here.

About Tango Apple Sugar Free

About Tango Apple Sugar Free

If you grew up reaching for a Tango in a corner shop or fishing one out of a bag on a long car journey, Tango Apple Sugar Free will feel immediately familiar. This is the genuine UK version, imported from the United Kingdom, and it is available in Canada without anyone having to smuggle it over in a suitcase.

The 330ml can is the standard single-serve format most people know. It is a carbonated sugar free apple soft drink with that particular Tango sharpness that has never really been interested in being polite about it. Apple-forward, properly fizzy, and not especially subtle. That is rather the point.

For British expats and anyone building a proper British drinks order online, The Great British Shop stocks it alongside the rest of the things that tend to disappear from the fridge faster than planned. It ships from within Canada, so there is no waiting on a parcel from across the Atlantic or hoping the international aisle comes through.

Tango Apple Sugar Free is suitable for vegans and suitable for vegetarians, and it manages the sugar free side of things without making a fuss about it. No sugar, no lecture, just a cold fizzy apple drink that tastes like the one you remember.

Frequently asked questions about Tango Apple Sugar Free

Q: What does Tango Apple Sugar Free taste like?

A: Tango Apple Sugar Free is a fizzy, sharp apple soft drink with a distinctly forward flavour that does not ease you in gently. The apple character comes from both apple juice from concentrate and natural apple flavouring, which gives it a bright, recognisable taste rather than a vague fruit suggestion. It is carbonated and properly tart, which is fairly typical of how Tango approaches soft drinks. If you remember it from the UK, it tastes exactly as it should.

Q: Is Tango Apple Sugar Free suitable for vegans?

A: Yes, Tango Apple Sugar Free 330ml is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Both claims are confirmed for this product. It is also sugar free, using sucralose and acesulfame K as sweeteners in place of sugar, and comes in at just 4 kcal per 330ml can. For a fizzy apple drink that fits a vegan diet without any compromise on the Tango experience, it does the job straightforwardly.

Q: Is the Tango Apple Sugar Free available in Canada the genuine UK version?

A: Yes, this is the genuine UK version of Tango Apple Sugar Free, imported from the United Kingdom and manufactured by Britvic. For British expats in Canada who grew up with Tango, that matters more than it probably should. The familiar orange can, the sharp apple fizz, the slightly confrontational flavour approach: it is all there. Because it ships from within Canada, you are not waiting on an international parcel to arrive with a dented can and a lot of hope.

More about Tango Apple Sugar Free

Tango Apple Sugar Free sits within a long-running British carbonated soft drinks tradition, where the expectation is that a fizzy drink should actually taste like something. The sugar free version uses sweeteners in place of sugar while keeping the apple character intact, making it part of a category of British low-calorie fizzy drinks that has a loyal following quite separate from the full-sugar range.

For British expats in Canada, finding the right soft drink can be a surprisingly stubborn problem. The Tango brand carries a particular kind of sensory memory that no generic apple soda quite replaces, and that is what tends to bring people searching for Tango Apple in Canada, whether they are rebuilding a familiar fridge or just want something that tastes like home.

The 330ml can is a single-serve format, pressurised and best kept in cool conditions before opening. It is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. No freezer required, just a cool spot until it is ready to drink, which makes it an easy addition to a broader British groceries order.

Tango produces several varieties across the range, including orange and other fruit flavours, both regular and sugar free. The full Tango in Canada range is stocked here, and it sits alongside other British drinks that tend to be the first things people reach for when an order arrives.

The can ships from within Canada, so whether it is heading to Charlottetown, Oakville, or Dartmouth, it arrives without the delays or condition risks that come with transatlantic parcels.
