About Galaxy Mixed Miniatures Pouch

About Galaxy Mixed Miniatures Pouch

Nobody takes just one. They take one, wander off, and come back for the pouch.

The Galaxy Mixed Miniatures Pouch is a bag of little Galaxy chocolates in a mix, the smooth British milk chocolate you grew up on, shrunk to a size that makes "just one more" sound perfectly reasonable.

Galaxy was always the soft one. It melts before you have decided to chew. If it lived in your lunchbox, the glovebox or the drawer you pretended was for batteries, you already know.

This is the UK pouch, and it ships from within Canada. The last one in the bag will be found by whoever swears they had none.

Frequently asked questions about Galaxy Mixed Miniatures Pouch

Q: What is in a Galaxy Mixed Miniatures Pouch?

A: A mix of mini Galaxy chocolates, smooth milk chocolate in little pieces you can hand round. The exact line-up is printed on the pouch itself.

Q: How big is the pouch?

A: It is 260g, which is a proper sharing bag. Big enough for a bowl on the table, small enough that nobody will believe it is finished already.

Q: Is it a good one to send as a gift?

A: Very. Anyone who grew up with Galaxy will know exactly what it is before the parcel tape is off, and that is most of the fun.

More about Galaxy Mixed Miniatures Pouch

In the British chocolate aisle, Galaxy is the smooth one. People who want snap go elsewhere. People who want a square to quietly vanish on the tongue go straight for Galaxy, and the miniatures are how it gets shared out: the office bowl, the film night, the coffee table when people come round.

Here, you tend to search for it by the name on the wrapper you remember, because that is the name your memory is attached to. Typing "Galaxy" into a search bar is half nostalgia, half stubbornness, and both are fair.

The 260g pouch is the sharing size without being a commitment. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, out of the sun, and it sits happily in the cupboard until somebody finds it. Tip it into a bowl for guests, drop a couple in a packed lunch, or keep the pouch by the kettle for the afternoon slump.

It goes with a strong cup of tea, obviously. Most people add it to a basket of other British chocolate they have been missing, and a few buy two so one actually lasts the week.

The story of Galaxy Mixed Miniatures Pouch

The pouch that goes round once

You open it meaning to have one. Then the film gets good, the pouch goes round the sofa, and by the end credits somebody is holding it upside down and blaming the dog. Nobody ever admits to the last one. That is the whole job of a pouch like this, and the name on the front is the one you grew up with. Galaxy comes from Mars, made at the factory in Slough, Berkshire, that Forrest Mars set up in 1932.

An American walks into Slough

Forrest Mars Sr. was the son of American candy maker Frank C. Mars. He moved to Britain and in 1932 started his own company, Mars Limited, in Slough, Berkshire. Not the obvious place to start a chocolate business, but it worked. That factory is the birthplace of the Mars bar, and Galaxy was first manufactured in the United Kingdom in 1960. It is still made there today, alongside the Mars bar, Snickers and Maltesers. Quite the neighbours.

Second place, and fine with it

In 2014 Galaxy was ranked the second-best-selling chocolate bar in the UK, behind only Cadbury Dairy Milk. Every British household has an opinion on that order, usually aired loudly, usually over the last piece. Slough is not resting on it either. The factory employs more than 1,850 people, and Mars is investing £190 million (2023 to 2028) to turn it into a 'next-generation manufacturing hub'. Very serious about chocolate, Slough.

Same family, different name

Galaxy is sold in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, the Middle East, Morocco, India, Pakistan, Australia and Malta, and as Dove in the United States, Canada, Mexico and parts of Continental Europe. The range includes caramel, Ripple, Bubbles and Minstrels, now Galaxy Minstrels, whose 1980s British adverts promised 'The chocolates that melt in your mouth, not in your hand'. The name on the front still matters, though. This one says Galaxy.
