About our best-before dates

We work hard to bring proper British groceries to Canada, but importing food across an ocean is not as tidy as stocking a supermarket shelf down the road.

Some products arrive with long dates. Some arrive with shorter ones. Different products come through the import process with different shelf lives, so the dates are not always as neat or predictable as they would be in a regular Canadian supermarket.

Most online grocery shops do not show best-before dates unless something is getting close. We do it differently.

If you were shopping in our Halifax store, you could pick up the product, turn it over, and check the date before buying. We think our online customers should get that same level of transparency.

That is why we show best-before dates clearly on our products.

What "best before" actually means

A best-before date is about quality — flavour, texture, freshness, and how the product is expected to be at its best.

It is not the same as a "use by" or expiry date, which only appears on certain regulated foods.

For everyday groceries like chocolate, biscuits, crisps, sweets, tea, sauces, jams, and pantry items, the best-before date is a quality marker, not a safety marker.

Why our dates vary so much

British imports are unpredictable. We do not get to choose every date that arrives in Canada, and different products naturally come with different shelf lives.

A jar of sauce may have months or years on it. A bag of crisps might arrive with a much shorter window and still be completely normal for that type of product.

We check dates, show them clearly, and give you the information before you buy — because that is how it should be.

What the colours mean

  • More than 30 days remaining
  • Within 30 days
  • Within 5 days, or past the best-before date

The product page will still show the actual date, so you can decide what works for you.

Why some customers like shorter dates

Many of our regular customers deliberately shop shorter-dated items when the price makes sense.

A chocolate bar with two weeks left is often every bit as good as one with six months left — and if we can pass on a saving instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, everyone wins.

It is not about cutting corners. It is about being clear, fair, and sensible with stock that has travelled a long way to get here.

About R.White's Raspberry Lemonade

About R.White's Raspberry Lemonade

R.White's Raspberry Lemonade is one of those British soft drinks that turns up in cans at barbecues, in the fridge after school, and in the back of the car on long journeys, and it has been doing so for long enough that most people who grew up in the UK have a fairly strong opinion about it. This is the real thing, imported from the United Kingdom, available in Canada without the usual complications.

This is R.White's Raspberry Lemonade in a 330ml can. The flavour sits where you would expect it to: tart lemonade with raspberry running through it, sweet enough to be refreshing and sharp enough to remind you it is a lemonade. It is fizzy, it is cold when you want it to be, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Or the can, as it happens.

For British expats in Canada, R.White's occupies a particular corner of the soft drinks shelf that nothing else quite fills. The Great British Shop stocks it precisely because "just get a lemonade" is not always a satisfying answer when what you actually want is this one, specifically.

R.White's Raspberry Lemonade is suitable for vegans and vegetarians, and comes in a single 330ml can, which makes it easy to stock up or try before committing to a larger order. It is a product with a long history in British soft drinks, and this raspberry variety has found its own loyal following alongside the classic lemon.

Frequently asked questions about R.White's Raspberry Lemonade

Q: What does R.White's Raspberry Lemonade taste like?

A: R.White's Raspberry Lemonade is a fizzy, fruit-forward soft drink made with real lemon and raspberry juice from concentrate, so there is genuine fruit behind the fizz rather than just flavouring doing all the work. It is the kind of British lemonade that sits somewhere between sharp and sweet, carbonated and distinctly pink. If you grew up reaching for it from a corner shop fridge, the flavour will feel immediately familiar.

Q: Is R.White's Raspberry Lemonade suitable for vegans?

A: Yes, R.White's Raspberry Lemonade is suitable for both vegans and vegetarians. The drink is made with carbonated water, fruit juices from concentrate, sugar, natural colour from anthocyanins, and a small number of sweeteners and preservatives, none of which affect its vegan status. It is one of those products where the answer is straightforwardly yes, which is always a relief.

Q: Is R.White's Raspberry Lemonade a genuine UK import, and is it available in Canada?

A: Yes, this is the genuine UK product, manufactured and distributed in the United Kingdom and imported into Canada. R.White's is not widely stocked in Canadian supermarkets, so for British expats or anyone who knows the brand from back home, finding it through a British grocery importer is usually the most reliable option. It ships as a 330ml can, the same format you would find on a British shelf.

More about R.White's Raspberry Lemonade

R.White's sits within a category of British carbonated soft drinks that is quite different from what most North Americans mean by lemonade. In the UK, lemonade is fizzy, pale or pink, and sharp with citrus; raspberry lemonade is a natural extension of that tradition, adding fruit colour and a berry note to the base. R.White's Raspberry Lemonade is a recognisable part of that British soft drinks landscape, the kind of can that appears in corner shops, supermarket chillers and garage forecourts across the country.

For Canadians who spent time in the UK, or who grew up in a British household, finding this particular drink in Canada is not always straightforward. The format, the flavour profile and the brand itself are specific to the British market, which makes it the sort of thing people search for when they want the version they actually remember rather than a rough approximation.

The 330ml can is a standard single-serve size, pressurised and best opened slowly. It stores well in a cool, dry place away from direct light, so it is practical to keep a few in the cupboard and move them to the fridge when needed. Vegan and vegetarian friendly.

R.White's produces other lemonade varieties alongside this one. The full R.White's range in Canada is worth a look, and it sits alongside a broader selection of British drinks for anyone restocking a proper British fridge.

This ships from within Canada, so whether you are in Toronto, Victoria, St. John's or Québec City, it arrives without the delays or customs uncertainty that come with ordering directly from overseas.
