In a British house, the chocolate advent calendar is how December officially begins. It goes up on the kitchen wall or the mantelpiece, and from then on every morning starts with a small, fiercely guarded ritual. Cadbury has been part of that ritual for a long time.

Christmas in Canada is lovely, but it is the little habits from home that get missed. People look for this one because they want their own kids to have the same December they had, or because they simply want Dairy Milk behind the door, not a stand-in.

It is a flat calendar that leans on a shelf, hangs on a hook or slides neatly into a parcel. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, well away from the radiator, until the first door. After that, keeping it is not really the problem.
