Canada's Top Reviewed British Shop
A jar, a pan and dinner on the table without much discussion. Tuesdays sorted.
Homepride Curry, Chasseur, Red Wine and White Wine and Cream sauces take dinner in rather different directions. The jar gets things moving; you supply the rest of the meal. It is a reasonable division of labour, especially when nobody particularly wanted to be responsible for dinner in the first place.
Some weeknights call for a proper recipe, and some call for a jar, a pan and dinner on the table without much discussion. This collection covers the second kind. Homepride cook in sauces have long been the quiet backbone of British midweek cooking, and here you will find six of them: Curry, Sweet & Sour, Red Wine, White Wine and Cream, Chasseur and Barbecue, each in a 400g jar. They are the sort of thing that sat in the cupboard at home for years without anyone thinking twice, until you moved to Canada and realised the shelf looked very different. The Great British Shop ships them from Canada, so getting a few jars back into the rotation is simple.
Homepride Cook In Sauce Curry and Sweet & Sour are the familiar starting points, the kind of tea that turned up on a Tuesday with rice and nobody complained. Barbecue sits alongside them for something a bit sticky and easygoing. Brown some chicken or pork, pour in the sauce, let it simmer, and that is more or less the whole plan. It is cooking with very little fuss and a reliable result.
The collection also has a slightly more dressed-up side. Homepride Red Wine cook in sauce works well with beef for a slow, comforting stew, while White Wine and Cream suits chicken, mushrooms or a creamy pasta bake. Chasseur rounds things off with that classic casserole feel, good for a cold evening when you want something hearty without standing over the stove for hours. None of it pretends to be fancy, and that is rather the point.
We ship across the country, so jars head out to Halifax and Dartmouth, Toronto and Ottawa, Montréal, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Victoria, Winnipeg, Kitchener, Moncton, Saint John and St. John’s without you having to search every international aisle in town. Pick up one of each to see which becomes the household favourite, or stock up on the one you already know you will use, and add a few British biscuits, crisps or chocolate to the order while you are at it. It is an easy way to keep a bit of British home cooking within reach in Canada.
