About our best-before dates

We work hard to bring proper British groceries to Canada, but importing food across an ocean is not as tidy as stocking a supermarket shelf down the road.

Some products arrive with long dates. Some arrive with shorter ones. Different products come through the import process with different shelf lives, so the dates are not always as neat or predictable as they would be in a regular Canadian supermarket.

Most online grocery shops do not show best-before dates unless something is getting close. We do it differently.

If you were shopping in our Halifax store, you could pick up the product, turn it over, and check the date before buying. We think our online customers should get that same level of transparency.

That is why we show best-before dates clearly on our products.

What "best before" actually means

A best-before date is about quality β€” flavour, texture, freshness, and how the product is expected to be at its best.

It is not the same as a "use by" or expiry date, which only appears on certain regulated foods.

For everyday groceries like chocolate, biscuits, crisps, sweets, tea, sauces, jams, and pantry items, the best-before date is a quality marker, not a safety marker.

Why our dates vary so much

British imports are unpredictable. We do not get to choose every date that arrives in Canada, and different products naturally come with different shelf lives.

A jar of sauce may have months or years on it. A bag of crisps might arrive with a much shorter window and still be completely normal for that type of product.

We check dates, show them clearly, and give you the information before you buy β€” because that is how it should be.

What the colours mean

  • More than 30 days remaining
  • Within 30 days
  • Within 5 days, or past the best-before date

The product page will still show the actual date, so you can decide what works for you.

Why some customers like shorter dates

Many of our regular customers deliberately shop shorter-dated items when the price makes sense.

A chocolate bar with two weeks left is often every bit as good as one with six months left β€” and if we can pass on a saving instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, everyone wins.

It is not about cutting corners. It is about being clear, fair, and sensible with stock that has travelled a long way to get here.

About Walkers Crisps Variety Bag

About Walkers Crisps Variety Bag

Six bags, one household, and somehow everyone wants the same one. The Walkers Crisps Variety Bag is the multipack that has started more arguments in British kitchens than the washing up.

It is the lunchbox crisp, the one you swapped at break time, the bag that came out at every picnic whatever the weather. If you grew up in Britain, you know exactly which one you grabbed first, and which one was still in the cupboard on Thursday.

Somebody always says they do not mind which. They always mind.

Open it, share it out, and let the negotiations begin.

Frequently asked questions about Walkers Crisps Variety Bag

Q: Is this the UK version of Walkers?

A: Yes, the British Walkers, the ones you remember. It ships from within Canada, so the only long journey is the one from the cupboard to your mouth.

Q: How many bags are in the pack?

A: Six individual bags in one multipack. Enough for a week of packed lunches, or one evening if nobody is keeping count.

Q: Is it a good thing to send to someone who misses Britain?

A: Very much so. Few things say home quite like a Walkers multipack turning up at the door, and it is light, so it travels well.

Q: Do you carry other Walkers crisps?

A: We bring in a selection from the Walkers range. Have a look through our crisps and snacks and you may find your old favourite.

More about Walkers Crisps Variety Bag

Walkers are simply the crisps in Britain: the name on the bag at the corner shop, in the pub, on the school trip. A variety multipack is how most British households buy them, one in the cupboard and the week's lunches sorted.

People in Canada go looking for these because the taste is tied to a time and a place. One bag and you are back on a wall outside the newsagent, or at a kitchen table with a sandwich that needed something on the side.

You get six individual bags in one multipack, so it shares out without anyone fetching the scissors. They sit happily in the cupboard, drop straight into a packed lunch and travel well on a walk or a long drive. Putting them inside the sandwich is optional, though deeply traditional.

They go with the rest of a proper British lunch: a cheese and pickle sandwich, a cup of tea, a chocolate bar for after. Walkers make a wide range beyond the variety bag, so if this one wakes the craving, have a look at what else from them is on the shelf.
