Nestle Smarties Small Egg - 100g

In Britain, Smarties live somewhere between sweets and chocolate, and Easter is when they get promoted. Every spring the supermarket aisles fill with eggs named after favourite bars, and the Smarties egg is always in the line-up, usually at child height.

If you grew up with it, Easter does not quite count without one. People look for it so their own kids get the same egg they did, and some look for it purely for themselves. That is allowed. Nobody is checking.

It is a small egg, which is the point: easy to tuck into an Easter basket, slip into a lunch bag on Easter Monday, or hide behind a plant pot where it will be found by the dog first. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, out of the sun, and out of reach of anyone in the house with previous convictions.

Nestlé is behind a good chunk of the British chocolate people miss, KitKat, Aero and Milkybar among them. Plenty of people buy one egg per person at the table, on the basis that sharing an Easter egg has never once ended well.
