Sarsons Brown Malt Vinegar - 250ml

Brown malt vinegar is as British as the chip shop itself. Sarson's is the name on the bottle in kitchen cupboards and café tables across the country, parked next to the salt and the ketchup, rarely moved and never questioned.

People in Canada go looking for it because chips at home taste of that particular tang, and nothing else quite puts you back there. One sniff and you are on a seafront bench, guarding your dinner from a gull with very little respect for personal space.

This is the smaller bottle, happy by the cooker or on the table without taking over. Keep the cap on and it sits in the cupboard quite contentedly. Shake it over chips, fish or mushy peas, splash a little into a stew, or use it for pickling onions if you are that organised.

It tends to come home with the rest of a chip supper: mushy peas, a jar of pickled onions, a bottle of brown sauce. Add some battered fish and the whole kitchen will smell exactly right, which is to say like a chippy.
