In Britain the Creme Egg is how you know spring has turned up. It appears in the corner shop long before the daffodils, and by Easter Sunday there is a whole aisle of boxed eggs, with the Creme Egg one usually the first to thin out.

If you grew up with a boxed Cadbury egg on Easter Sunday, you want that same box: the purple, the yellow, the cardboard you tear open before breakfast. People here look for it for their own kids, or quietly for themselves, and nobody needs to know which.

It comes boxed, so it travels well and looks the part when handed over. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, out of the sun, and it will sit happily in the cupboard until the day. It makes a good finale to an egg hunt, or the main event for the one grown-up who still expects an egg.
