About our best-before dates

We work hard to bring proper British groceries to Canada, but importing food across an ocean is not as tidy as stocking a supermarket shelf down the road.

Some products arrive with long dates. Some arrive with shorter ones. Different products come through the import process with different shelf lives, so the dates are not always as neat or predictable as they would be in a regular Canadian supermarket.

Most online grocery shops do not show best-before dates unless something is getting close. We do it differently.

If you were shopping in our Halifax store, you could pick up the product, turn it over, and check the date before buying. We think our online customers should get that same level of transparency.

That is why we show best-before dates clearly on our products.

What "best before" actually means

A best-before date is about quality — flavour, texture, freshness, and how the product is expected to be at its best.

It is not the same as a "use by" or expiry date, which only appears on certain regulated foods.

For everyday groceries like chocolate, biscuits, crisps, sweets, tea, sauces, jams, and pantry items, the best-before date is a quality marker, not a safety marker.

Why our dates vary so much

British imports are unpredictable. We do not get to choose every date that arrives in Canada, and different products naturally come with different shelf lives.

A jar of sauce may have months or years on it. A bag of crisps might arrive with a much shorter window and still be completely normal for that type of product.

We check dates, show them clearly, and give you the information before you buy — because that is how it should be.

What the colours mean

  • More than 30 days remaining
  • Within 30 days
  • Within 5 days, or past the best-before date

The product page will still show the actual date, so you can decide what works for you.

Why some customers like shorter dates

Many of our regular customers deliberately shop shorter-dated items when the price makes sense.

A chocolate bar with two weeks left is often every bit as good as one with six months left — and if we can pass on a saving instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, everyone wins.

It is not about cutting corners. It is about being clear, fair, and sensible with stock that has travelled a long way to get here.

More about this product

Buy Crawford's Garibaldi - 100g in Canada

Crawford's Garibaldi - 100g is one of those biscuits that tends to sort the serious biscuit people from the merely curious. Thin, crisp, and packed with currants, it is an old-school British biscuit with no interest in being trendy.

If you know Garibaldis already, you will know the appeal. A proper layer of fruit pressed between crisp biscuit sheets, just enough sweetness, and a cup of tea nearby doing its bit.

These are the sort of biscuits that have been quietly turning up in tins and cupboards for years without needing any marketing drama. Straightforward, familiar, and recognisably British, which is rather the point.

Available in Canada from The Great British Shop, Crawford's Garibaldi - 100g is the genuine UK version for customers after proper British biscuits, not a vague imitation that only gets as far as raisins and hope.

More About Crawford's Garibaldi - 100g

Crawford's Garibaldi - 100g is a pack of golden crispy biscuits filled with currants, made by one of the long-established biscuit names customers in Britain already know. These are proper Garibaldi biscuits, thin and fruit-filled, rather than something inflated into a snack bar with identity issues.

Available in Canada from The Great British Shop, Crawford's Garibaldi - 100g is the genuine UK product for customers looking to buy British biscuits in Canada. It is suitable for vegetarians and contains no artificial colours or flavours, which suits a biscuit that was never meant to be especially flashy in the first place.

For customers in Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, and Truro, this is exactly the sort of packet that belongs in a sensible tea cupboard. It is just as useful for customers in Toronto, Mississauga, Ottawa, and Montreal who want familiar British biscuits in Canada without having to compromise on the actual brand.

Orders also head across Canada to Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Victoria, and Surrey, where British groceries are often less about novelty and more about getting the exact item you meant. Crawford's Garibaldi - 100g fits that brief neatly, particularly if you know your way round a proper biscuit shelf.

If you are searching for Crawford's Garibaldi - 100g, British biscuits in Canada, or authentic UK biscuits shipped across Canada, this is an easy one to recognise. Crisp, fruity, and properly old-school, it is the sort of biscuit that does not need reinventing because it got the job right the first time.

Additional Information

Packaging Accuracy

We always do our best to keep product information as accurate and up to date as possible. From time to time, manufacturers change packaging, ingredients, nutritional information, allergen advice, pack sizes, or branding without much notice. Because of that, the product you receive may look slightly different from the images shown online.

If anything important changes, we update our listings as quickly as we can. If you have a question about ingredients, allergens, or a specific product before ordering, please get in touch and we will gladly check it for you.

Transparent Online Pricing

We believe in being upfront about pricing. Some products are priced higher online than they are in-store, especially heavier items, fragile goods, or products that are more expensive to pack and ship safely across Canada.

That difference is not there to catch anyone out. It reflects the real cost of getting British food to customers properly, whether you are ordering from Toronto, Halifax, Dartmouth, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Mississauga, Montréal, Victoria, Winnipeg, Windsor, Bedford, Saint John, Charlottetown, Kitchener, Carleton Place, London, Burlington, Etobicoke, or somewhere smaller in between.

We would rather be transparent about that than hide the reality in vague terms. Proper service, careful packing, and honest pricing matter to us, and we would rather explain the cost clearly than build it into the experience in a way that feels misleading.

Weather, Melting & Freezing Risk

Some products carry a higher risk during transit in extreme weather. In warmer months, chocolate and other heat-sensitive items may soften or melt. In colder months, drinks and certain products may freeze, leak, or become damaged in transit.

We do what we reasonably can to reduce that risk. Liquids are packed in sealed protective bags to help protect the rest of your order if a bottle leaks or bursts. During summer, we may add ice packs to chocolate orders or take extra packing precautions where possible. Even so, there is no way to fully guarantee that heat-sensitive or cold-sensitive products will arrive unaffected during extreme weather.

We are clear about that because we would rather be honest than make promises we cannot always control. Your trust matters to us, and we try to be transparent about how we price, pack, and ship every order.
