About our best-before dates

We work hard to bring proper British groceries to Canada, but importing food across an ocean is not as tidy as stocking a supermarket shelf down the road.

Some products arrive with long dates. Some arrive with shorter ones. Different products come through the import process with different shelf lives, so the dates are not always as neat or predictable as they would be in a regular Canadian supermarket.

Most online grocery shops do not show best-before dates unless something is getting close. We do it differently.

If you were shopping in our Halifax store, you could pick up the product, turn it over, and check the date before buying. We think our online customers should get that same level of transparency.

That is why we show best-before dates clearly on our products.

What "best before" actually means

A best-before date is about quality β€” flavour, texture, freshness, and how the product is expected to be at its best.

It is not the same as a "use by" or expiry date, which only appears on certain regulated foods.

For everyday groceries like chocolate, biscuits, crisps, sweets, tea, sauces, jams, and pantry items, the best-before date is a quality marker, not a safety marker.

Why our dates vary so much

British imports are unpredictable. We do not get to choose every date that arrives in Canada, and different products naturally come with different shelf lives.

A jar of sauce may have months or years on it. A bag of crisps might arrive with a much shorter window and still be completely normal for that type of product.

We check dates, show them clearly, and give you the information before you buy β€” because that is how it should be.

What the colours mean

  • More than 30 days remaining
  • Within 30 days
  • Within 5 days, or past the best-before date

The product page will still show the actual date, so you can decide what works for you.

Why some customers like shorter dates

Many of our regular customers deliberately shop shorter-dated items when the price makes sense.

A chocolate bar with two weeks left is often every bit as good as one with six months left β€” and if we can pass on a saving instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, everyone wins.

It is not about cutting corners. It is about being clear, fair, and sensible with stock that has travelled a long way to get here.

About Cadbury Caramel Nibble Bag

About Cadbury Caramel Nibble Bag

Nobody in history has eaten just one nibble. Cadbury Caramel Nibbles are bite-sized pieces of Cadbury Caramel, soft caramel in Cadbury milk chocolate, loose in a bag that fits in a coat pocket.

This is what you bought at the newsagent for the bus home, or on the way into the cinema, or for the long drive when someone in the back seat needed bribing.

The trick is the size. No unwrapping, no snapping off squares, just a hand in the bag and another one gone before you have decided to have it.

And the last one at the bottom? Nobody left it. It just appeared.

Frequently asked questions about Cadbury Caramel Nibble Bag

Q: Is this the UK version?

A: Yes, this is the British bag, made in the UK and shipped to you from within Canada. Same purple, same nibbles.

Q: How big is the bag?

A: It is 85g, a good handful. Enough to share, in theory.

Q: Is it a good thing to send as a gift?

A: It is a cheerful one to tuck into a parcel for someone who misses home. Small, light, and gone within the hour.

Q: Do you carry other Cadbury chocolate?

A: We stock a range of Cadbury from the UK, so have a look around the chocolate section. Dairy Milk is the usual companion.

More about Cadbury Caramel Nibble Bag

In Britain, Caramel sits near the top of the Cadbury family, right next to Dairy Milk on the shelf by the till. The nibbles are the grazing version: the same chocolate and the same caramel, just in pieces made for dipping into while you are doing something else.

If you grew up with it, the taste of Cadbury chocolate is very specific, and it is the British one your memory is holding out for. That is usually why people type the name in: they want the exact bag from the corner shop, purple and all.

It is an 85g bag, which is a decent handful for one or a polite round for two. Keep it somewhere cool and dry in the cupboard, well away from the radiator, and fold the top over if you have the willpower to stop. It earns its place on film night, in a lunchbox or in the car on a long drive.

People rarely stop at one bag. A Dairy Milk bar or a bag of Buttons tends to end up in the basket alongside, because once the Cadbury cupboard is open, it is open.
