Bonds Chocolate Limes - 120g

Chocolate limes belong to the old guard of British sweets, alongside pear drops, sherbet lemons and rhubarb and custards: the ones once weighed out by the quarter from a big glass jar and handed over in a paper bag.

People in Canada go looking for them because they are oddly hard to describe to anyone who did not grow up with them. "It is lime, but there is chocolate inside" gets a polite nod. Handing one over works far better, and then you have a convert.

The 120g pack is a sensible amount to keep in the cupboard, the car or the desk drawer, as long as you stop yourself opening it straight away. Boiled sweets keep well somewhere cool and dry, and these are made for slow going, one at a time, ideally on a long drive when everyone has stopped talking.

They tend to end up in the basket with other sweet-shop favourites. Pear drops, rhubarb and custards, a bag of something fizzy: build your own pick and mix and nobody has to argue over the last one.
